  3. Moisture Resistance (IEC884 C16.3)
  4. Temperature Rise (UL817 C87)
  5. Contact Resistance (IEC884 C11.5)
  6. Withdraw Force (IEC320 C16)
  7. Resistance to Aging (UL817 C90)
  8. Flexing Test (UL817 C96)
  9. Abrupt Pull Test (UL817 C99)
  10. Jacket Retention Test (UL817 C100)
  11. Strain Relief Test (UL817 C109)
  12. Impact Resistance Test (UL817 C92)

1. Conditions: A quantity of No. 7 lead drop shot is to be placed in a container. Apply a voltage of 500V DC for 1 minute at an ambient temperature of 25&plusmin;5°C between: A)Live parts of opposite polarity B)Live parts and ground contact with ground, after which measurements shall be made with a Megohmmeter.

Specification: 100MΩ

2. Conditions: The test potential is to be supplied from a 500 VA or larger testing transformer and be increased from zero until 2000V (in fact, 1250V is required)is reached, then held at the voltage for 1 minute. A)Live parts of opposite polarity B)Live Parts and ground or contact with ground C)Between conductor and outside body
Frequency: 50/60 Hz

Specification: Without breakdown or flashover

3. Conditions: Sustained relative humidity between 91% and 95%.
Sustained temperature between 20 and 30° C For grounding contact specimens, kept in a humidity cabinet for 168 hrs. (7 Days). All other cases: 48 hrs. (2 days).

Specification:After treatment specimen shall withstand dielectric strength

4. Conditions: Current is tested at 1.25 tines the rated current for a period of 1 hr.

Specification: The temperature rise of the terminals and contact is no more than 30°C (54°F)

5. Conditions: Cord connector is inserted into the receptacle. Current is tested at 1A DC at an ambient temperature of 25&plusmin;5°C by the voltage drop method.

Specification: No more than 20mΩ

6. Conditions: Withdraw the connector straight into the standard gauge (mating plug),First The connector is inserted to the full depth into and withdraw from the appropriate appliance inlet 10 times,It is then again inserted for a principal mass is such that it exerts a force equal specified in the table .Verification of the minimum withdraw force is applied to each connector, the total mass of applicable force as shown in table.

Type Withdraw Force N(Kg)
Multi-Pin Gauge Single_pin Gauge
Maximum Minimum Minimum
0.2A/2.5A/6A/10A 50(5.1) 13(1.3) 1.5(0.15)
>=16A 60(6.1) 15(1.5) 2(0.2)

Specification: During the verification of the maximum withdraw force test,The principal mass is hung on the connector without jolting and the supplementary mass is allowed to fall from a height of 5cm on to the principal mass, the connector shall not remain in the appliance After verification of the minimum withdraw force test, the gauge shall be not removed 0.079inch(2mm).During the single-pin gauge test, the gauge shall not fall from the contact assembly without 3sec.

7. Conditions: The temperature in the cabinet is 100&plusmin;1°C. The specimen is kept in the cabinet for 96 hrs. (4 days).

Specification: No crack or damage.

8. Conditions: A molded-on attachment plug and cord connector shall be capable withstanding the test specified as show in the table:

Load Weight (g) Angle (°) Minor Axis Direction (turns) Optional Direction (turns) 90° Rotational Directions (turns) Rate of Flexing per Min. (turns)
Plug SPT Types 113
HPN Types 284
90   2500 N/A 10
Connector SPT Types 113
HPN Types 284
90   2500 N/A 10

Molded to 20inch(508mm) lengths of flexible cord is required, and each cord approximately 12 inches(305mm) from the point of rotation to the weight.

Specification: After the test the sample shall have no damage or breakage.

9. Conditions: For cords employing a grounding conductor molded-on attachment plugs and cord sets shall withstand the test described below:

A sample shall be secured by the blades to the mounting plate of the test apparatus and the plate positioned so that the sample is pointing downward at an angle of 45° to the vertical. The sample shall be subjected to an impact by raising and releasing a (1.1kg) weight, allowing it to fall freely for a distance of 10inches to impact the strike plate and shall be repeated until (1)discontinuity of the grounding conductor or either line conductor results, or (2) 25 impacts are completed.

Specification: After the test,(1)without resulting in a discontinuity in any conductor or connection as a result of 5 impacts and (2)the number of impacts needed to cause a break in the grounding circuit shall be not than the number of impacts required to break any of the line circuits-up at a maximum of 25 impacts. The acceptability of the grounding conductor is to be verified by causing it to carry of 40A at 6-12V for 2 minutes.

10. Conditions: The sample shall be rigidly secured by blades to the same apparatus used for the abrupt pull test. Two methods are used:

Method 1

A weight of 3 lb(1.4kg) is to be suspended at a point 8 inches(203mm) from where the cord enters the fitting for 15 seconds and the test apparatus mounting plate is to be rotated 360° about the horizontal axis of the cord for 15 seconds.

Method 2

The cord jacket of the sample is to be slit for a short distance at a point 6 inches(152mm) from the point of the cord entry. All internal conductors, conductor insulation, fillers, and separators are to be severed, and a 15lb(67N) force is to be applied for 2 minutes at a point 8 inches from the cord entry.

Specification: Following the test, there shall not be any fillers, separators, insulation, or bare conductors visible at he cord entry.

11. Conditions: The conductors of sample shall be terminated to the blades or grounding pin in methods 1, 2 and 3.

Method 1 -- Static pull

A sample shall be subjected to a gradually applied pull of 30 lbf to the free end of the cord while the sample is securely supported, the force shall be applied for 1 minute.

Method 2 -- Rotary pull

A sample shall be subjected to a rotary cord motion while a force of 10 lbf is applied for 2 hours. The cord is to be rotated at a rate of approximately 9 r/min in a 3 inch diameter circle at a point 6 inches below the cord entry.

Method 3 -- Abrupt Removal

A sample shall be mounted to represent a typical installation. Each abrupt removal shall consist of the full insertion of the sample followed by a complete withdraw by means of 10 lb weight dropped from a height of 24 inches onto a striker plate.

Specification: After the test, there shall not be any displacement of the conductors, conductor insulation, or outer jacket of the flexible cord exceeding 0.79mm.

12. Conditions: Before the test, a sample shall be conditioned in a circulating -air oven for 7 days at 90±1?,and then cooled to room temperature. The cord is to be fastened to point A, raised to point B (90° from vertical) and is allowed to fall freely to strike point C (striking block). The machine is to repeat the operation continuously for 1000 cycles.

Specification: After the test the sample shall be without cracks or breakage.
